Gender's affect in writing.
We have gone through several texts now and I want to make a point about how I've seen gender affect writing. In the Winnemaca text, I felt it had a string appeal to ethos while the King Phillip texts had a more logos approach. Now, I don't if the stereotype of "women are much more emotional than men" is impressing upon me more than the cause of such affects is due to the author's intention. Personally, I just feel it's more of the author's style of communication which has to gender traits mixed with it. The King Phillip texts was much more factual and straight to the point, consistent with the view that men are "action oriented" in their speech meaning they get straight to the point. The Winnemaca texts was much more story telling and paid attention to more detail yet overall I found this piece to be more engaging. Perhaps the other thought the element of storytelling would effect the reader more than any other strategy.

2 weeks done with a few texts to talk about.
So far we've read book 1 and 2 of the Popol Vu and 3 works from Elias Boudinot. I find the latter to by of much less interest the the fist mentioned. While reading the Popul Vu I found that it is written similarly to the King James version of the Bible. I haven't investigate it, but as far as syntax goes I find it similar (I've read the New Testament of the Bible before). I am interested in learning more about how this script came to be if the story is written in the metaphysical life. I guess my question is: How did a a metaphysical story transfer to the "real world?" Something else I was confused about was the turtle exploding into a thousand pieces the class didn't resolve and am interested in hearing an answer and brief class discussion later. Other than that, it was a smooth reading for me.
Why I chose this title?
To be honest, I am writing this blog hastily (and past deadline) because I was considering to drop the class due to the amount of units I am doing and extra curricular activities I'm involved in. I actually decided to keep the class and drop one of my extra curricular (volunteering at the student-run clinic "Imani Clinic) and resolve to commit more time to my school work. Now I just work part time as a peer advising counselor, serve the Guardian Scholars (former foster youth group) committee member, and am taking 16 units this quarter. I think I'll change up my title later but I have another blog I use so maybe I'll keep it the same. Anyways, that's why I choose my title--in haste!
